History

Mann & Machine is a small family-owned business located in Richmond, Vermont established in 1996 by Peter and Heidi Bormann.

Peter grew up in Richmond, Vermont and always had a love of cars at a young age. Peter’s father ran the Sunoco Station in Williston when he was a teenager and he worked with him until he went off to college at McPherson Auto Restoration. After college Peter moved to Martha’s Vineyard for 5 years running Depot Corner Mobil in Edgartown, Massachusetts. When he returned to Richmond, Vermont he worked at a local repair shop where he would meet his future wife. Heidi, a Huntington Vermont native, was running her own successful business down the street from the repair shop, Peter and Heidi were married in 1993.

Heidi encouraged Peter to open his own shop and in 1996 the doors to Mann & Machine were opened. Peter loves working on cars, and Heidi loves working with people so in 1999 Heidi sold her business and began running the daily shop operations. Mann and Machine started out in a two-bay garage on Route 2 just outside of Richmond Village, where they served the community for 18 years.

In 2014 the Bormann’s were presented with the opportunity to purchase a commercial building that had a four-bay garage, with office space and nice waiting room. The Bormann’s moved the shop into Richmond Village and are still operating out of that space today!

In 2016 Peter and Heidi welcomed their son Kyle onto the team, he is leading the shop into the electric age. Kyle was certified in 2020 to service Hybrid Electric Vehicles and Electric Vehicles (HEV/EV). The Bormann Family is proud to call Richmond their home, and consider it an honor & privilege to serve their community keeping everyone safe!
